Hello 2012~
I know a lot of people want to try a detox - why? It's the challenge of will power so let's do this together and find success. Detoxing is hard work, I will try to make it as simple as possible. 21 days of a different way of eating and really thinking. I am not a doctor and I am doing this for my health and if you want to do it with me please know I am only making suggestions and you have to take full responsibility of your self care. I just want to cleanse and rejuvenate myself after the holiday's of over indulging. I just found the 21 day detox they are doing on www.wholeliving.com and LOVE IT!! I will also be getting recipes from them. Keep it easy, try new foods and keep open.
Detoxing info. from Wikipedia:
The general idea suggests that most food is contaminated by various ingredients deemed unnecessary for human life, such as flavor enhancers, food colorings, and artificial preservatives. Scientists, dietitians, and doctors, while generally judging 'detox diets' harmless (unless nutritional deficiencyresults). Proponents claim that this will cause the body to burn accumulated stored fats, releasing fat-stored "toxins" into the blood, which can then be eliminated through the blood, skin, urine, feces and breath.
Here we go!!!!
Week one - Eliminate Dairy including eggs, caffeine, wheat, corn, and processed sugar, and alcohol.
Start supplements.
Week two - Eliminate meats, fish and beans.
Stay on supplements.
Week three - add meats, fish and beans back in, slowly.
**Start your day with Green Tea and water (warm)
Eat every 3-4 hrs.
Breakfast (eat within 1 hr of awaking) - Fruit any amount to satisfy yourself, try a green smoothie. ( protein powder ok to use if needed for energy) use PEA Protein powder.
Lunch - (biggest meal of day) should consist of 1/2 cup brown rice or quinoa, raw or slightly steamed veggies and 1 serving of white protein (fish or chicken) salmon is best even thought not white or 1 cup of beans.
Dinner - Start with a cup of miso soup and followed by a raw salad. ( extra virgin olive oil, garlic and lemon juice make a yummy salad dressing) Eat lots of raw veggies and nuts. This includes juicing (carrots, celery, parsley, beets)
* Broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, beet greens, artichoke, oranges and tangerines help the liver.
Eat 1-2 tablespoonfuls of good oil every day.(olive, flax, hemp, coconut)
Parsley will keep your breath fresh and speed liver detoxification.
Snacks of raw nuts and seeds, veggies and miso soup can be eaten throughout the day.
Stop eating at least 2-3 hrs. before bed.
Use Lemons/Limes in water.
Herbal Teas are good.
Spices to use are Turmeric and Ginger
So that is your food and supplements, now off to other important parts of a detox.
1. Sweat daily - try to workout everyday, see you in yoga class.
2. Write all your food down in a food journal and how your feeling.
3. Breathing exercises are a must to help your mind and to consciously take time for yourself.
4. Get all your food ready the day before with help.
5. Be positive - it's only 21 days.
6. Weight in everyday and write it down.
Let me know if you have any questions.

From one of our Yogis..... YES - Yoga helps you in your everyday life.
This is a funny, if not hilarious, story I want to share with you while i was dipnetting.
Our campground's bathroom was the great reliable green latrine! These were complete with a mirror on the door. Can anyone possibly explain to me why there should be a mirror that is 3x5 inches in a port-a-potty? We're at a campground where we gut and clean fish for crying out loud?! Why do we want to see our reflection?
No that is not my story.
When I camp I usually do not go poop. I use to find that great. But then my body aged (agh!) and I find that pooping is very essential for my body. This time camping I made sure to continue eating fresh fruit and veggies. Well after 2 days of not pooping and me getting nervous, I woke up in the morning needing to go. I mean really GO!!!
Our faithful latrines were only inches from overflowing. How I managed not to poop while all other campers experience explosions is still a mystery to me. Well I just couldn't go to the latrine. I was sure my toilet paper would end up touching my bum. So I jumped into the car and drove to Wal-Mart. Never in my life have I loved using a bathroom in Wal-Mart. Running water so so great.
So I averted a terrible situation. Or so I thought. I was drinking tons of water this particular day since the sun was out. I was peeing a lot. When I pee in a port a potty, I hover! But i also want to avoid possible aim problems, so I lift the seat so I don't spray the seat for the next poor soul who does not know she should never ever sit on a port-a-potty seat.
Afternoon rolls around and I need to pee again. Yes I know you are loving my pee and poop story. Hang in there. I do my usual, lift up the seat, hover and pee. And suddenly I feel it. I have to poop. Oh no! I can't poop. Not in here! But there was no holding it back either. I was left with no choice. But yikes! I was still hovering! I didn't even have the option of lining the disgusting seat with toilet paper as the stupid seat was in the up position behind me! If I moved to lower it I would poop all over the latrine!!!!
I was left with this one last thought of hope as my legs were burning in the latrine, holding my hovering bum over an infectious, stinky mound of you know what! "Breath! Breath into it. You can do it. Your legs are strong. Breath." Do those words sound familiar? Yes Mary even in the latrine at dipnetting your words came to me! and I laughed out loud when I found a new meaning of "All life is Yoga".

THE CLEAN 15 - If you choose to buy conventional produce, stick to the fruits and veggies with the lowest amounts of pesticide residue. This group, dubbed "the clean 15" by the Environmental Working Group includes:
onions, avocados, corn, pineapples, mangoes, asparagus, sweet peas, kiwifruits, cabbages, eggplants, papayas, watermelons, broccoli, tomatoes, sweet potatoes.
THE DIRTY DOZEN: The EWG has compiled a list of the 12 fruits and veggies with the most pesticide residue. For these varieties, it's worth seeking out organics:peaches, apples, bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, kale, lettuce, imported grapes, carrots and pears.
Bottom Line: Bottom organic whenever you can; it's best for the environment. Exceptions; if it's flown in from across the world and you have a beautiful, local - but not organic - carrot right under your nose, or if it's mass produced and you have the option to buy from a reliable small farmer instead - BUY LOCAL ALASKA!!!
